Photos released of suspect who iced his own robbery attempt....

Last weekend, December 7, 2024, Asheville Police said a man tried to rob a convenience store on Smokey Park Highway just after midnight Saturday. Still unidentified, Police have released two photos of the suspect.

Initially, he went into the store to buy ice, but Police say he brandished a handgun and ordered the store employee to lock the front door. The quick thinking clerk used that as an opportunity to run out the door and into the occupied parking lot, which caused the suspect to flee.

Officers were able to get a description of the accused, medium build, Black male, 6’0” tall. At the time of the crime, he was wearing a black jacket, black gloves, and a motorcycle helmet with a visor. He fled the scene heading westbound on Smokey Park Highway on a black motorcycle.

Anyone who can help identify the suspect should call Asheville Police at (828) 252-1110. You can also send an anonymous tip using the TIP2APD smartphone application (search “Asheville PD” in your app store) or by texting TIP2APD to 847411.
