One Upstate school district has taken a step in an effort they believe will keep students safer. The Oconee County School District now has biometric gun safes in each of its 18 schools.
The Sheriff's Office says the safes will be fully operational district wide when the new school year begins. Resource officers will now be carrying their patrol rifles in and out of the building everyday and will be storing them in the school's new gun safe.
Classes are set to start back in Oconee County next Thursday August 3rd.
