Firefighters say the multi-alarm blaze that broke out in the abandoned Union Bleachery complex in West Greenville's San Souci neighborhood early Wednesday morning, "looks suspicious."
The Piedmont Park Fire Department got the first alarm around 3:30 AM. They reported that sparks from the building ignited shrubs and underbrush along the Swamp Rabbit Trail near North Franklin Road.
Some residents of that area also say they were awakened by Greenvilel County Deputies telling them they might have to evacuate if the flames continued to spread.
The fire was contained in time to avoid evacuations, but units were still on t he scene well after daybreak.
The building was supposed to have been empty and had no electricity, so the cause of fire remains under investigation.
