BMW to invest over a billion dollars in Upstate, plans to build new plant

A major automaker is set to invest over a billion dollars in their current operation and build a new facility here in the Upstate.

BMW has announced that are set to pour 1.7 billion dollars into their Spartanburg plant to bolster their production of electric vehicles. The company held an event at their Upstate plant on Wednesday to break that news.

They also, announced they will be building a new battery plant in Woodruff. The company is set to invest $700 million dollars in the new facility, which will build BMW designed batteries for the company's electric vehicle line. That move is expected to create 300 new jobs.

Governor McMaster, Senator Lindsey Graham and other elected officials were on hand for the event. McMaster commended BMW for their forward thinking vision and praised their history of success in the state.

Graham talked about how BMW and South Carolina at the forefront of the biggest change in transportation, in modern times. BMW says, they plan to build at least 6 different fully electric models in South Carolina by 2030.
