The bodies of two swimmers who went missing at Lake Hartwell this weekend, have now been recovered.

As we previously reported, The Pickens County Sheriff's Office responded around 1030 PM Saturday night after a report that two people had went missing in Lake Hartwell.

Officials say a group of teenage boys jumped off a bridge in the area of Pike Road and Old Jewel Bridge Road in Central.

Pickens County Emergency Management says three of the four boys in the group jumped from the bridge and tried to swim across to shore. Two of the three made it across, but a third was calling for help. One of the boys then went back into the water to help his friend and then went under the water and did not resurface.

Officials say that the bodies of the two missing boys were recovered from the lake around 11AM, Monday. The Pickens County School District has confirmed the two teens were students at Daniel High School.

The two teenagers have not been publicly identified as of the time of this report.
Fox Carolina is reporting that the boys jumped in the lake after seeing a viral video challenging people to do so on social media.
