A Native American woman in North Carolina is making history after being nominated to serve in the North Carolina statehouse. The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians or EBCI has nominated Anna Ferguson to fill the seat after Representative Mike Clampitt died, last month.
Ferguson will represent house district 119 and will serve the rest of Clampitt's term. She will then be the Republican nominee in November's election to fill the seat.
The EBCI says Ferguson will become the 1st official member of their tribe to serve in the North Carolina Statehouse.
