As part of that, the City will appoint a staff member, as the liaison to that community. The city says, it scored rather low in a 2021 study of how LGBTQ groups are treated. The city manager will make the appointment of the liaison.

Travel site Thrillist.Com named Columbia, South Carolina's friendliest city to those groups , earlier this year. This will be a 1st for the city, as this position has not existed previously.
