A clergyman was arrested last month in the Upstate on more than two dozen child sex crime charges.

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office assisted deputies from Richmond, Virginia in taking 86 year old, Albert Benjamin Wharton into custody at his home in Pickens County on December 8th.

The charges stem from alleged incidents when Wharton pastored a church in Richmond from 1976 to 2002. The charges include 22 counts of indecent liberties with a child under 13 and 8 counts of aggravated sexual assault.

The crimes reportedly happened over a 15 year period from the early 80's and late 90's. Investigators say Wharton pastored churches here in South Carolina, Virginia, Alabama and Florida.
