Community comes together in prayer vigils for wounded deputy

People around the Upstate continue to rally behind a deputy who was shot in the line of duty, last week. As we previously reported, 27 year old Corporal Lucas Watts was shot by a suspect during a traffic stop on Highway 11 near Fair Play, Thursday.

Watts was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital where he has remained in stable but critical condition. The Suspect was also shot in the incident and was taken into custody.

50 year old, Gregory Wayne Maxwell faces charges on five counts of attempted murder and a weapons violation, stemming from the incident. Over the weekend, the community came together to show support for Corporal Watts and his family.

A prayer vigil was held Saturday night at Mountain Mocha coffee shop in Walhalla. On Sunday Afternoon, Earle's Grove Baptist Church in Westminster held one and another prayer service was held at the Shaver Rec. Complex in Seneca, Sunday night.
