A Western North Carolina man is expected to spend over 5 decades behind bars after being convicted of child sex crime charges. A Haywood County Jury found 43 year old Phillip Leon Hewett guilty on multiple counts of statutory rape of a child 15 years old or under and two counts of indecent acts with a child.
Hewett has been sentenced to a minimum of 53 years in state prison, with a potential max sentence of 75 years. He will be required to serve at least the 53 year minimum before he can be eligible for release.
