Following a spirited exchange of views at their most recent session, Greenville County Council is putting further discussion of controversial statues in downtown Greenville on hold until next month. Council's finance committee had recommended withdrawing the county's support for the project sponsored by the Hispanic Association. There had been complaints from people who found the winged and mostly nude male figures "indecent" for public display. But the exhibition (by Mexican sculptor Jorge Marin' won unanimous approval from Greenville City Council saying it has drawn visitors to downtown, and that overall support has been "overwhelming." County Council will revisit the issue at its June meeting.
