D.A.R.E to make a comeback...
Greenville County Sheriff, Hobart Lewis, is bringing back the D.A.R.E program to elementary schools across the county.
The Drug Abuse Resistance Education program was discontinued in the late 1990s.
The Sheriff's Office says four deputies are assigned to the program teaching lessons that focus on drug abuse prevention, character building, and smart decision-making skills.
The 10 week curriculum is currently being taught at Lake Forest, Greenbrier, Bells Crossing, Taylors, Westcliffe, and Monarch Elementary schools.
This summer, the Sheriff’s Office — in partnership with Greenville County Schools — plans to expand the program to even more schools by adding six additional trained deputies.
