A special meeting is set for Monday afternoon in regards to the proposed data center on South Pine Street in Spartanburg. DHEC officials recently approved the center to operate nearly a dozen combustion turbines.
Community members and leaders are still pushing for the new data center to be classified as a major development. Which would require more due diligence, public meetings and public input. T
he Valara Data Center is a Northmark Strategies project. Officials say It will include a gas fired power plant on site.
This comes after the Spartanburg County Council delayed a vote on a 1 year data center moratorium.
