In mid-August we reported DermaRite Industries initiated a voluntary recall of hand soaps and cleansers "due to potential microbial contamination identified as Burkholderia cepacia complex."
The company recently expanded that recall to more than 30 products. DermaRite said in a press release, the bacterium in the products "may result in serious and life-threatening infections if the products are used by immunosuppressed individuals..."
The products were sold over the counter nationwide in the United States and Puerto Rico.

According to the press release, consumers should contact their physician or healthcare provider if they have experienced any problems that may be related to taking or using any of the recalled products.

DermaFungal is an OTC antifungal cream intended for the treatment and prevention of most athlete’s foot, jock itch, and ringworm. It relieves itching, scaling, cracking, and discomfort associated with these conditions.

DermaRite Industries, LLC is voluntarily recalling individual lots of its line of soaps and cleanser due to Burkholderia cepacia contamination.
According to the company, the bacterium could lead to “serious and life-threatening infections.”
The recall includes the company's DermaClean, DermaSarra and KleenFoam soaps and PeriGiene cleanser sold over-the-counter in the United States and Puerto Rico.
A news release issued by DermaRite said, product use on healthy individuals may cause local infection "whereas in immunocompromised individuals [the infection is more likely to spread into blood stream] leading to life-threatening sepsis." DermaRite said it has not received any reports of adverse events to date.

DermaRite has notified its distributors and customers by e-mail to immediately examine available inventory and destroy all affected products in accordance with each facility’s process.
