The Highway Patrol is investigating a fiery crash that claimed the life of a driver whose pickup rear-ended a disabled dump truck near Piedmont Wednesday night.
The 1980 Chevrolet dump truck had stopped in the eastbound lane of SC Highway 20 near Monticello Street about 9:00 o'clock. The driver of a pickup rounded a curve, slammed into it and caught fire trapping its driver.
The dump truck driver was uninjured, but the driver of the 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene.
That collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
