An upstate police chief is on administrative leave after what has been described as a racially charged verbal altercation over the weekend.
The Assistant City Administrator says, Easley Police Chief Stan Whitten was placed on leave after an investigation regarding an incident at Lake Keowee Saturday, in which Whitten is accused off using a racial slur in an argument at a boat ramp.
Witnesses also said Whitten appeared to be intoxicated. Whitten has been Easley's Police Chief since April of 2021. More information from the City of Easley is expected soon.
