A couple who lived on Woodview Avenue in Spartanburg was found deceased in their home over the weekend. Officials are still investigating the deaths of 82 year old Glen Fowler and 84 year old Joan Littlejohn, after they were found in a house whose basement heating system had reached one thousand degrees.

Spartanburg Police say a welfare check was requested by family members on Saturday. Relatives had not heard form them since helping the couple with the gas and water heater pilot lights last Wednesday. When Police got inside the home, they noticed it was extremely hot.

Police said they did not initially see any signs of foul play nor were there any signs of carbon monoxide poisoning. Emergency crews on scene worked to air out the home due to the strong odor of natural gas.

After 2 and half hours, only then did the homes' thermostat begin working again, reading a temperature of 96 degrees. Both the Spartanburg Police Dept. and the Coroner's Office continue to investigate the matter.
