An equipment issue prompted a major power outage in the Upstate Wednesday night. 19,000 residents in parts of Greenville and Spartanburg Counties were without power. The outage happened after a failure involving a transmission line and substation failure.
Laurens Electric officials said the equipment failure was on the Duke Energy transmission side of the grid. The outage affected the company's website and call center as well. Repair crews worked through the night to resolve the issue and power has now been restored
