A suspect who police say committed mayhem in the mountains of Western North Carolina is now in custody. As we previously reported, the Asheville Police Department responded this past Saturday for a welfare check on South French Broad Avenue.
Upon arrival, police found a woman dead with a gunshot wound. She's been identified as 26 year old, Makayla Lashae Harrison. Police then identified the suspect as 34 year old, Darren Clayton.
He was apprehended Wednesday afternoon in Jacksonville, North Carolina which is on the other side of the state.
