Five suspects are in custody and charged with shooting at Upstate deputies. The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says, the group is also responsible for a crime wave around the area. Deputies spotted a stolen vehicle around 2AM Thursday and attempted to stop the vehicle.
The driver refused and a chase ensued, during the chase two of the suspects began firing shots at them from inside the vehicle. The deputies nor their patrol vehicles were hit by the gun fire. The group then exited the vehicle and fled on foot, two of them were tracked by a K-9 unit and apprehended. A 3rd suspect was located and arrested by an officer from the Spartanburg Police Department.
All three later confessed to their involvement in Thursday's incident. The other two suspects were found and arrested hours later, and also confessed to their roles in the incident. Investigators say, the group also confessed to multiple recent robberies at Spartanburg area businesses. They then reportedly confessed to three shootings at Spartanburg apartment complexes from last Sunday to this past Tuesday.
The Sheriff's Office says, those investigations are still acitve and charges from those incidents are pending. The suspects have been identified as 18 year old , Kanye Cromer-Hines, 20 year old, Walter Lee Long III, 20 year old Dorian Samir Petty, 17 year old Nyjawon Jamaine Williams and a 16 year old juevnile who's identity has not been released. All Five are charged with Attempted Murder, a Weapons Violation and Possessing A Stolen Vehicle. Photos of the other suspects are below (except the 16 year old juvenile).
