The former chief of an Upstate police department has been arrested on child sex crime charges. Jason Daniel Hawkins, the former chief of police in Iva was taken into custody Monday. Hawkins is charged with two counts of 3rd degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
According to the arrest warrants, the charges stem from Hawkins inappropriately touching the minor while the two were in a vehicle together. Hawkins served as police chief in Iva before leaving that post in January of last year. After seeing a judge on Monday, Hawkins received a surety bond of 20 thousand dollars.
