Furman Grad Elected President Of Finland

A graduate of an Upstate university is now the leader of a foreign country. Furman grad Alex Stubb has been elected as the new President of Finland.

Stubb grew up in Finland's capital city of Helsinki and came to Furman on a golf scholarship after graduating high school in Finland in the late 80's.

After graduating from Furman he served in Finland's Army achieving the rank of Lance Corporal. Stubb began serving the Finnish government 20 years ago and was Finland's Prime Minister prior to running for President.

He was elected President this past Sunday. Stubb returned to Furman in 2017 to give the school's commencement speech. He becomes the 1st ever Furman grad to be elected president in any country.
