A Gaffney man will spend the next four decades behind bars after being convicted of murder, last week. The 7th Circuit Solicitor's Office says 38 year old Christopher Duncan was found guilty of murder in a jury trial.
The charges from a 2019 incident when the body of Justin William Cash was recovered from the Broad River. Duncan told investigators he had met Cash there around 1AM on June 14th so they could float down the river. It was Cash's 1st time doing so, Duncan stated that Cash was under the influence, fell out his float and drowned.
Duncan claimed he could not get to Cash to pull him out of the water. Evidence from the investigation found that Duncan did not seek help for Cash and that Duncan could not account for the 12 hours that passed before he called 911.
Cash's body also showed signs of trauma that a forensic pathologist said was not caused by anything in the river. Duncan has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.
