The Upstate's largest school district is making the grade following the release of school report cards by the State Department Of Education. Greenville County had 44% of its schools score in the excellent range and 28% in the good range. That is considerably higher than the state average of 21% of schools scoring excellent and 22% scoring good.
District Spokesman Tim Waller says, the district's graduation rate is at 85%, which is higher than the previous year and is a 12% increase from 2012. GCS Superintendent Dr. Burke Royster said " “The results of the report card ratings show the hard work and progress that has been made in spite of the challenges of the pandemic. Our schools have maintained their overall ratings and continued to significantly outperform the state".
Of the 14 High Schools in the district, 8 of them had a higher graduation rate that the state average. With Woodmont and Riverside High Schools both graduating over 90% of the students who entered 9th grade their four years prior.
