Workers removed the statue of General Robert E. Lee in Charlottesville, Virginia early Saturday morning. Just blocks away, crews also took down a statue of General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. The removal of these statues follows years of contention, community uproar and legal fights. A removal push focused on the General Lee monument began in 2016 culminating in the deadly 2017 "Unite the Right" rally in which a peaceful counterprotester was killed and dozens of other people injured. In South Carolina, there are at least 112 public spaces with Confederate monuments. Some people suggest moving Confederate statues to museums, battlefields or to historical societies.
So we want to hear from you: Should all statues that memorialize the Confederacy be taken down?
