A couple of downtown Greenville bridges are scheduled for repair early next year...
Motorists in the area are already familiar with the closures of the Washington Street Bridge, and Hudson Street bridge near Unity Park. Both sustained damage from Hurricane Helene at the end of September, which forced the shutdowns.
According to City of Greenville Engineering Director Clint Link, "the state must complete the work in the next year to qualify for FEMA disaster reimbursement funding."
Beginning in early 2025, emergency repair work will begin, which will include improvements to both bridges.
The Hudson Street bridge will see upgraded approaches to the Swamp Rabbit trail and the Washington Street bridge will be widened in anticipation of future bicycle and pedestrian improvements.
