A one percent sales tax increase in the Upstate's largest county has moved one step closer to reality. The Greenville County Council passed the 2nd reading of the tax referendum at their meeting, Tuesday night.
An amendment has been added that says 90% of the revenue from the sales tax increase is earmarked for the county. The other 10% will be allocated to a land trust and transportation services like Greenlink.
The proposed increase must still pass another reading before being adopted.
