Media release provided by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office Monday.

Earlier this morning (Monday), just before 1:00am deputies with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office were conducting patrol near a site under construction, located at Hammett Street and Victor Street when they came upon a suspicious vehicle.

Soon after, an officer involved shooting took place. A Greenville County Deputy was shot and transported to the hospital where he is expected to recover. At least one Deputy fired at the shooter, however the person was not hit.

The shooter was detained near the incident location and as standard with an officer involved shooting SLED responded to the scene to conduct an investigation into the incident and that investigation is ongoing. In addition, the GCSO Office of Professional Standards will conduct a separate internal investigation.
