Greenville looks to be on the brink of its biggest municipal merger since the annexation of Cherrydale in 2023. The total area the city would annex is about 135-acres.
However, where Cherrydale was mostly residential, this is the commercial corridor that includes an office park overlooking I-385, and Sam's Club on Woodruff Road , in all 19 parcels of real estate. City Council has given unanimous first-reading approval to the annexation.
The petition requesting it was signed by far more than the seventy-five percent of property owners required by State Law, so second reading approval will do it.
In return for the new property tax revenue, the city offers businesses and residents zoning protection, and enhanced response times on police, fire and emergency services. Which usually garners a rate break ona property and casualty insurance .
Greenville Mayor Knox White says thoughtful annexation was adopted as part of Greenville's growth strategy five years ago, so that in his words, " We can guide growth the right way."
