Last month, our own Matthew Causey presented a series on the growing homelessness issue in the Upstate. This week, WORD's Rob Jones will highlight various aspects and trends in the real estate market around the area. Monday's installment of the series examines the possible expansion of affordable housing in the Upstate's largest city.

The City of Greenville is looking at a proposition to invest a million dollars in federal funding for the development of more affordable units. City administrators are holding a zoom meeting Tuesday night (March 14th), as they continue to collect the public's input on the matter.

The funding is earmarked and can only be used for creating additional affordable housing or in subsidizing rent costs. Last month (February), the City began holding public meetings to give an overview of the process. City Staff is working to submit a general plan and feedback from the community, before the end of March. "

The series on the Upstate's market will run through Friday and will feature insight from a local real estate agent. It will also examine how inflation is impacting area residents.
