A Greenwood man will spend the next two decades in prison after pleading guilty to shooting his girlfriend. 28 year old Vernard Eugene McBride entered guilty pleas Thursday to charges of attempted murder and a weapons violation.
Court documents show that 911 dispatchers got a call in march of 2023 about a woman who had been shot. Deputies arrived and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was reportedly giving McBride a ride to court to appear on a domestic violence charge when an argument happened. Investigators say McBride was illegally armed and shot the woman twice.
A gun matching the type used in the shooting was found at Mcbride's house. He has been sentenced to 20 years in prison and will not be eligible for early release.
