The suspect accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend in Greenwood over the weekend, has been arrested hundreds of miles away.
As we previously reported, the Greenwood County Coroner's Office responded to a shooting on Sumter Street, just after 130AM Saturday morning. Upon arrival, police and coroner's office personnel found the victim dead from a gunshot wound.
The Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 23 year old, Nayeli Guerrero. The suspect, Guillermo Hernandez-Garcia had fled the scene prior to police arriving. He was located in Lauderdale County, Mississippi (about 90 miles east of Jackson) over the weekend and was taken into custody.
Police say Garcia and Guerrero were in a relationship and an argument led to the shooting. Garcia is charged with murder and a weapons violation. He's being held in Mississippi and is expected to be extradited back to Greenwood County in the coming days.
