The groundbreaking ceremony has been held for the new ballpark in Spartanburg. Hundreds of people gathered for the ceremony, as the new stadium is part of the largest capital investment project in the city's history.

The stadium has been named Fifth Third Park as the bank with several Upstate locations has secured the naming rights. Officials say, the stadium will host other events in addition to serving as the home for Spartanburg's new baseball team.

The World Series Champion Texas Rangers announced earlier this year, that their Kinston, North Carolina affiliate will be moving to the "Sparkle City". The name, logo and mascot for the new team are set to be revealed next year.

The new stadium will seat 3,500 people and is set to open in 2025. It is part of a nearly half a million dollar development plan for Spartanburg's downtown area.
