"Let 'Em Work, Let 'Em Live" has long been the mantra regarding SCDOT personnel working on the state's highways. That motto comes to mind after an incident on a major Upstate highway. The South Carolina Highway Patrol says a highway emergency response worker was hit by a vehicle around 7:30 Wednesday morning.
The collision happened on I-85 in Spartanburg County near the highway 9 exit. The worker was outside the vehicle when it happened. Workers from the State Highway Emergency Program or SHEP primarily assist drivers who are having mechanical trouble and emergency response teams. The Highway Patrol says the MAIT is investigating the crash and the worker was severely injured.
