An investigation is ongoing after the death of an inmate at a Western North Carolina jail. The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office says that guards at the Detention Center found an inmate unresponsive in their cell, Tuesday.
Staff tried to administer life saving measures while EMS arrived, those attempts were unsuccessful and the inmate was pronounced dead.
The Sheriff's Office has called in the North Carolina Bureau Of Investigations to conduct an independent investigation into the incident.
The identity of the inmate has not yet been released, as of the time of this report.
