The death of an inmate at an Upstate jail over the weekend is under investigation. Both SLED and the Cherokee County Coroner's Office are looking into the death of 26 year old, Cierra Mariah Chesnee. She was found dead at the Cherokee County Jail around 5 PM Sunday evening.
Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says a guard discovered Chesnee hanging in her single cell when delivering her dinner tray. Efforts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Fowler says an autopsy is scheduled on her which is standard protocol for an inmate's death.
