SLED is investigating after the weekend death of an inmate at an Upstate jail. The Oconee County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an inmate in cardiac arrest around at the Oconee County Detention Center, around 5:30 Saturday morning.
Upon arrival, deputies found detention officers trying to perform live saving measures on an unresponsive man. The Coroner's Office says the inmate died less than an hour later. He's been identified as 24 year old, Michael Calvin McMahan.
Officials say detention officers found McMahan in his cell unresponsive while in the process of serving breakfast. An autopsy is scheduled to determine his official cause of death.
