24-year-old Jamal Jermaine Alston was found wandering along Highway 66 near the Laurens-Newberry County line Sunday morning in blood-soaked clothing and barely conscious. Deputies from both counties had responded to a 9-1-1 call from someone who had seen him on the roadside around 4:00 a.m. He died of gunshot wounds soon after reaching the hospital. He was able to tell investigators was on his way back to his home in Fairfield County when he offered a ride to a man and woman he met at a gas station near Whitmire.

While the deputies were still at the hospital they got a report of a car on fire in Union County.   It was determined to be Alston's Honda. There was no sign of the couple, and Alston was not able to give much of a description of them before he died beyond saying they are both White. Investigators urge anyone who might have seen the tan-colored 2015 Honda or can help with any information on the case to call any local law enforcement agency or 1-888-CRIME-SC.
