Is climate change driving this heatwave?
The heatwave that's been baking the U.S. Northwest has moved its way into Canada, where some provinces saw temperatures climb to a record 116 degrees on Sunday. The record highs are the result of a a static high pressure area known as a "heat dome" that acts like a lid on a pressure cooker. The heat dome that's turned parts of North America into kilns stretches from Idaho to Canada's Arctic territories. All totaled, 40 Canadian heat records were broken over the weekend, according to climatologists. An electrical utility in the Washington state city of Spokane has announced that there will be more rolling blackouts that will cut off electricity and air conditioning.
