In 1962, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that school sponsored prayer was a violation of the First Amendment. Thus, banning school led prayer from schools. However, Students are still allowed to pray on there own. Data from the research group everytownresearch , there have been 149 incidents of gunfire on school grounds in 2021 across the nation. Those incidents have resulted in 32 deaths and 94 injuries. In 1960 and 1961 combined in the U.S., there were 4 documented school shootings. One of those was committed by a principal and another by a mail carrier who walked into the principal's office. The numbers are drastically different compared to when prayer was allowed in school.
