The Laurens Police Department made an exciting announcement Tuesday, March 19, 2024.
Nearly two weeks after former Police Chief Keith Grounsell announced his resignation, a successor has been named. In a social media post, Laurens Police have named Heath Copeland Jr. as their new Chief. Copeland served as interim Chief after Grounsell left to pursue opportunities in the private sector.
This past February, then Captian, Copeland was awarded the prestigious John P. Faros Volunteer of the Year award by the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce.
During a presentation in downtown Laurens with Mayor Nathan Senn, Chief Copeland shared words of gratitude and encouragement: "To my officers, I promise I will be there for you night and day. To my community, I will be there for you night and day. It’s not just about me, it’s about us.”
