A class action lawsuit has been filed in relation to a former Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist nurse for his alleged involvement in the death of two women and attempted death of another during his employment.

An investigation into Jonathan Hayes began in March of 2022 after the death of Gwen Crawford and Vicky Lingerfelt in January of last year. Warrants said both women were given high amountsof insulin which resulted in their deaths. In the case of Lingerfelt,  she was not diabetic and had no orders to receive insulin for any reason.

A third victim, Pamela Little, also suffered a hypoglycemic episode while under the care of Jonathan Hayes in April 2022, but survived.

The class action lawsuit alleges Hayes was not following policies and there were "red flags" that should have alerted hospital administration.  Additionally, the lawsuit accuses Atrium Health of failing to supervise Hayes and failing to perform "audits to ensure patient safety."
