Lightning might've sparked weekend fires at two Upstate churches. Firefighters were still guarding hotspots at the latest one, early Monday.

Crews were dispatched shortly before 11 PM Sunday night to Camp Creek Baptist Church on Camp Creek Road in Taylors. It has been heavily damaged. Thunderstorms wirth frequent lightning were moving through the area about the time the fire was reported.

Seneca firefighters were able to minimize damage to the Word of Light Church Satuday night. One of the firefighters who lives in the neighborhood actually saw lightning hit the steeple shortly before 7:30, Sunday evening.

Thanks to the early warning, damage was confined to that part of the roof. The fires are being investigated by SLED arson detectives, standard procedure in all church fires.
