Parents of Greenville County School students received a letter Monday concerning bomb threats on American schools.
The notice informed parents of a national hoax about the threats with a similar message circulating on social media. The threats included schools in Greenville County. The letter went on to say Law Enforcement and the Greenville County Sheriff's Office "continues to investigate these messages" but have found no credibility to the threats and are taking all of the appropriate precautions.
The letter stated in closing all Greenville County schools continue to run on a normal schedule.
Below is a copy of the letter that was sent by Greenville County Schools:
"Parents/Guardians,
Please know that everything is safe in our schools. We want to let you know that there is a national hoax where school districts, including Greenville County Schools, and other entities across the country are receiving a vague and non-credible bomb threat. Additionally, we are aware that a similar message is circulating on social media threatening American schools. Again, this is a part of a national hoax, which you may have seen reported in the national media. While law enforcement continues to investigate these messages and has determined there is no evidence of a credible threat at this time, the District continues to work with state and local law enforcement agencies, including the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, to take all of the appropriate precautions. Again, there is no evidence of a credible threat, and all Greenville County schools are continuing on a normal schedule. There is nothing you need to do. Please know that these types of messages are designed to create a disruption, but as always, we take this seriously, continue to be diligent, and prioritize the safety of students and staff at all times.
