State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver announced Wednesday that Renee Atkinson, an AP English teacher at Aynor High School in Horry County has been named the 2024 South Carolina Teacher of the year.
BMW Manufacturing, a Teacher of the Year program sponsor, gave Atkinson keys to a 2024 BMW X5, which she can use during her year-long sabbatical from the classroom as South Carolina's public education ambassador.
Along with the use of the Plant Spartanburg built BMW X5, Atkinson also receives a $25,000 cash award, a set of Michelin tires, a $2000 Bojangles award and will serve as the state spokesperson for over 50,000 educators.
