A suspect has been charged after a weekend shooting in Western North Carolina left a teenage boy injured. The Yancey County Sheriff's Office a group of teenagers was visiting a bridge on Highway 197 in the Green Mountain Community, Saturday.
The group apparently parked on private property and a fight broke out with a neighborhood resident. The Sheriff's Office says Leonard Anthony Widawski then got involved and fired one shot, striking a 15 year old boy.
Widawski was arrested and is charged with assault with a deadly weapon. The teenager was taken to Mission Hospital in Asheville and is said to be in critical but stable condition, as of Sunday evening.
