The Mayor of an Upstate town has stepped down after accusing leaders there of corruption. Abbeville Mayor Trey Edwards announced his resignation on social media, Sunday. Edwards cited ongoing conflict in the town, he says the town of Abbeville has a culture of corruption and cover-ups.
Leaders in Abbeville have refuted those allegations and say no evidence of wrongdoing found, while those claims were investigated. The resignation from Edwards came prior to a town council meeting in Abbeville, Monday night.
Members were expected to discuss removing Edwards from office. The town also says that some employees have filed a lawsuit against Edwards accusing him of intimidation and harassment.
