SLED has announced the arrest of a mayor, police chief and two former police officers in one Pee Dee area town. They are all charged with criminal conspiracy and misconduct in office.
McBee Mayor Glenn Odom, former McBee Police Department Chief Michael Irvin, McBee Police Chief Timothy Knight, former Captain Gregory Block were booked into the Chesterfield County Detention Center.
They are accused of imposing tickets quotas and fine assessments designed to generate revenue for the Town of McBee. The SLED investigation said multiple officers were interviewed and stated they were under consistent pressure to write a high volume of tickets.
In the arrest warrant, SLED provided as evidence text messages discussing the practice. The case will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.
