A Mexican National who was illegally living in Western North Carolina has been sentenced after a crash that killed a child, nearly two years ago. 32 year old, Aaron Santos-Pinzon was found guilty on fatal hit and run charges, late last week.
The Henderson County Sheriff's Office says, Santos-Pinzon was driving his SUV in August of 2021 when he hit and killed a three year old girl that was riding her tricycle in front of her home.
He then fled the scene, a deputy later spotted Santos-Pinzon driving towards the South Carolina state line. He was stopped and taken into custody, his breathalyzer results revealed he was over the legal limit. Santos-Pinzon admitted to deputies he had been drinking prior to the incident.
Santos-Pinzon was sentenced to a minimum of over 8 years in prison. The judge ordered that he be extradited back to Mexico after serving his sentence in North Carolina.
