The Columbia Police Department says, one officer died and a second was injured after responding to a call about a domestic dispute. Chief “Skip” Holbrook, says the suspect also died in the shootout.
Chief Holbrook says the deceased officer, 29 year-old, Christopher DeLong had been with the department for two years. He leaves behind a wife and two young children. After an evening news conference Saturday, law enforcement officials joined a procession from the local hospital.
Holbrook says the second officer is in stable condition. The suspect killed in the incident has been identified as Adam Tyler Dowdy. He had a history of arrests across at least four states for charges including disorderly conduct, contempt of court, public intoxication, possession of a controlled substance and probation violations.
SLED has been called into investigate the shooting.
